A lot of mystery surrounds the upcoming movie, and the many reveal only add to the suspense. We suppose you’re here after watching the trailer for the full-length Thor: Love and Thunder. Since it’s receiving so much attention, we think it’s time we break the silence and pen down whatever we know about the movie right now.
Although Marvel is known for adding new superheroes to its roster, this new film will feature one of the original Avengers: Thor, played by Chris Hemsworth. Now, he is set to return as the Asgardian god in this new Marvel original. What else is exciting? Thor: Love and Thunder is the fourth solo Thor film in the Marvel MCU.
Before we get into further details, you probably would like to know that Thor: Love and Thunder is another part of Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Phase 4. Upto the newest Thor installment, the 4th phase includes Shang-Chi, Black Widow, Spider-Man: No Way Home, and Eternals.
In phase 4, Marvel started to move to TV, bringing their big-budget aesthetic with them. Disney Plus has been premiering many original series from Marvel.
In 2011, MCU was still relatively new in the industry when the first Thor movie came out. This first Thor movie was a major contributor to The Avengers’ huge success, which was released a year later in 2012.
On that note, let’s not forget the disappointment of fans upon the release of Thor: The Dark World. However, the arrival of Taika Waititi, a film director from New Zealand, helped Thor regain his popularity. The Thor Ragnarok showcased Watiti’s epic directorial skills and his pension for writing witty and funny dialogue.
The newest Thor installment was announced back in 2019, and it is finally released this July.
Thor: Love and Thunder is set to hit theaters on July 8, 2022
The release date for Thor: Love and Thunder were not always the same. MCU postponed the screening due to the Covid outbreak and the ensuing pandemic.
However, Disney soon announced a release date shuffle for multiple Marvel movies in October 2021. Ultimately, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness released on May 6 in the US though it was lined up for March 2022.
Originally, MCU planned to debut Thor: Love and Thunder on May 6, the current release date for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. This led to a chain reaction, and the fourth Thor movie received a new release date of February 11. This pushed the release of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever to November 11, 2022, and the Captain Marvel sequel to 2023.
But according to the new update, the flick will hit the big screens on Friday, July 8, 2022. You can also expect previews a day before, on July 7. And if you don’t already know, all upcoming Marvel movies, including Thor: Love and Thunder, will be exclusively in movie theaters at least 45 days before their release on streaming platforms.
The official full-length trailer for Thor: Love and Thunder is finally here. The trailer gives audiences the first look at Thor since his appearance in Endgame almost three years ago. The trailer also showed Jane Foster and Gorr the God Butcher. Previously, Marvel released a teaser trailer.
We all know how rapidly the MCU has grown, but it becomes all the more evident when you look at Thor: Love and Thunder’s cast.
There are plenty of celebrities playing new and old characters in Thor’s fourth flick. The star of the show, Chris Hemsworth, is returning for his role as Thor, the Asgardian god.
Hemsworth has appeared as the God of Thunder in seven Marvel Cinematic Universe movies since 2011. These typically include the 4 Avengers movies and three solo Thor films. While he is sure to play the God of Thunder in Thor: Love and Thunder, Natalie Portman will be picking up the hammer in the movie.
In Thor and Thor: The Dark World, Natalie appeared as Jane Foster, playing the role of a scientist and Thor’s love interest. However, she was not seen in Thor: Ragnarok as they were explained to have separated. Nonetheless, Natalie Portman is back, and MCU had confirmed that her character would be taking the title of the Mighty Thor in the upcoming film.
Sure, Natalie Portman and Chris Hemsworth are leading the pack when it comes to intriguing Marvel fans. But with Taika Watiti back as the director, he is reprising many fan-favorite characters. For example, you will also see Jaimie Alexander as Lady Sif with Taika Waiti playing Korg.
Members of the Guardians of the Galaxy, including Kraglin, Drax, Peter Quill, Nebula, and Mantis, are also set to make an appearance. This is not all; actors Matt Damon, Luke Hemsworth, and Sam Neil are also expected to join. They will be playing Loki, Thor, and Odin, respectively.
Also, expect a fun new cameo, Melissa McCarthy, who will appear as the villain Hela from Thor: Ragnarok. Are you ready to learn more about the other additions? Well, brace yourselves because Christian Bale is playing the villain Gorr the God Butcher in Thor: Love and Thunder. Another Oscar-winning will also be in the movie as Russell Crowe plays Zeus.
Thor: Love and Thunder look like a continuation of Avengers: Endgame. If you remember, the movie ended with the titular God of Thunder retiring and mixing with the Guardians of the Galaxy. The God of Thunder was busy with some soul-searching when he got roped to a new mission.
Marvel dropped an exciting first teaser that features an exciting new rock song. And it only makes sense that Thor needed a breath of fresh air after losing his homeland, parents, brother, and so much more.
Additionally, Marvel Studios also unveiled Thor: Love and Thunder’s official synopsis. According to the synopsis, Thor is on a journey different from anything that he has faced before. This time, he is on a quest for inner peace.
As he retires, Thor gets interrupted by Gorr, the God Butcher. Gorr is a galactic killer who wants the gods to go extinct. To fight this extinction-level threat, Thor asks the help of ex-lover Jane Foster, Korg, and King Valkyrie.
Posters for Thor: Love and Thunder are circulating that feature Chris Hemsworth and Natalie Portman. On this note, you should also know that Marvel Comics by Jason Aaron serves as a huge inspiration for the movie, particularly Portman’s role as Jane Foster.
